From 1872 onwards when the
then new Guild Hall was built. That clock had 4 faces and was fitted into
a tall tower and it was said that people could see the time on the clock
from all directions. It could actually be seen from Y Maes if one stood
near the Castle hotel as the tower was tall enough for people to see over
the top of the buildings on the other side of Y Maes. In 1898/1902 the
tower was found to have dry rot and was reduced in size to the one as
shown in the photo below.
